It’s been a few weeks since we all celebrated the end of the school year, said good bye to students, teachers and members of the administration who will not return to the school in the fall. Our year end celebration was different than in previous years, and it was a cheerful and celebratory event where we were able to express our thanks to our longtime host, Boston University, and honor our student graduates who are leaving us - many after attending the Saturday School for 10 years or more.

Both Consul General Friedrich Löhr, who was in attendance at the ceremony, as well as the chair of the Saturday’s School Committee, Heri Sontgerath, expressed their sincere gratitude to Dr. Doug Sears, Associate Provost and Assistant to the President, for the University’s longtime support of the school. In between speeches and the presentation of certificates, lower grades performed songs rehearsed under the leadership of our music teachers Katja Schönherr and Birgit Danckert. The weather was very much in our favor, and following the official program in the BU auditorium, everyone moved outside to enjoy coffee & cake.

In September, the school will open its doors to the new students in a new school - and new chapter for the German Saturday School will begin. To quote the great German writer/poet Hermann Hesse from his poem “Stufen”: “Und in jedem Anfang wohnt ein Zauber inne” - “In all beginnings dwells a magic force”:  We are looking forward to this new chapter in Lexington, MA - beginning on Saturday, September 8, 2012!
